What's the best platform to TRULY connect?
I started this blog because facebook frustrates me.
Im a mother who sings and DJs and I love talking with YOU, the person who shares this journey.
Having a professional page on Facebook has changed so much in the past few years and now the cold hard fact is that you don't get to see what I've posted. As a result we've gradually lost the communication channel within the FB black hole and its a bit sad.
Im online only to be in a dialogue with you. I love that I can converse with you whether you're near or far. I love that you appreciate how I do some things of the things I do and can share your own experiences with me. When the communication is open its the biggest honour to hear who you are and your stories and why you feel to follow me. I love to hear stories of how my music was the backdrop to your summer roadtrip or a particular lyric that helped you through a difficult time. Its the fuel that encourages me to keep writing and recording.
I wrote the album ROAR by communicating on facebook (back when fans saw posts). I chatted with friends, family and fans from around the world. I started to hear themes in what women were sharing with me. I interviewed women from all walks of life from the 12 year old girl next door to the 60 year old woman in Israel who was messaging me during a bomb raid. I realised that women's fears and vulnerabilities were universal and their stories are written throughout the album.
With the band we've stayed at probably a strangely large number of fans houses all planned through facebook. We've sung for our supper and played house concerts in small towns between large shows and billeted with fans after playing at festivals. We've stayed with numerous bride and groom's families and friends partying till dawn with a myriad of characters. This to me is the point of it all. The fun is in hanging out with you guys! be it online or on the road.
So how do I talk to you these days? Ive been collecting emails for years but meh....people send me newsletters, I don't read them, they're boring and they aren't interactive. I don't want to spout at you I want to converse with you!
So would you help me? Is blogging an 'alive' platform? Do you have any other ideas? Please comment I'd love to hear your suggestions. I'll explore them one by one until I find my way back to my beloved community again.
Ironically I'll be feeding this blog to FB so let me know if you do see it there.
I miss youz xx
